Nicaraguan Hammocks - Advice and Care

Nicaraguan Hammocks without spreader bars can generally be cleaned either with a washing machine or by hand.

When machine washing, it is best to fold the hammock in half and tie the edges of the hammock together just below the rings, then tie at the opposite end and in the middle. This should prevent the strings from getting tangled during the wash and spin phases. Place the tied up hammock in a washing machine bag. Use mild detergent to wash. We advise to never use bleach on your Nicaraguan hammock.

Wash the hammock separately, with the most gentle / delicate cycle option. When washing is complete, carefully remove the hammock from the bag, untie and spread it out to dry completely. We do not advise using a dryer to dry your hammock.

For Nicaraguan hammocks with spreader bars, please note that these cannot be machine washed.

The best way to clean spreader bar hammocks is to lay the hammock out on a hard dry surface, preferably outside. Then, using a bucket of warm water, a mild detergent and a soft bristle brush, clean both sides of the hammock thoroughly.

After washing, we advise to hang the hammock up immediately to let it dry. This should help extend the life of your hammock.
